Who We Are
The Shakopee Diversity Alliance (SDA) is a community-based organization made up of volunteers with different ethnic backgrounds and faiths. Most of us live in Shakopee while others work or volunteer in Shakopee. The SDA is not connected with the City of Shakopee nor any other organization in Shakopee. Funding for SDA activities and events is raised through its own fundraising efforts as well as donations and sponsorship from local businesses, groups and community members.
On March 22, 2012, Shakopee city leaders led by Mayor Brad Tabke hosted the city’s first ever diversity summit at city hall. It was held to seek new ways to reach the city’s diverse population, help improve communication, foster positive relationships and make the community more welcoming to all residents. More than 140 people attended the summit. In the days and weeks after the summit, numerous community members met to continue discussions and they eventually formed the Shakopee Diversity Alliance.
