TOGETHER: Standing With Your Black Neighbor
Please note this is a TENTATIVE EVENT.
In honor of Black History Month, SDA will be hosting a mini series highlighting inequities/ social justice issues that impact our black community. This will be an important series for our allies to join. Why? SDA has received feedback from our community of color that Shakopee still feels cold and unwelcoming, especially in light of discussing issues that impact the black community like that of George Floyd. Additionally, we’ve received a flood of interest around how to better support our black community. As your local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color organization this is how we think you can best support us. Our communities have felt especially burdened by these issues and have been hit with additional hardship with the pandemic.
We are still hashing out the details but this will be a space for allies to listen, learn, come with questions, feel safe to ask type of space. These are difficult topics to take in and understand. We ask that those of you sincerely interested in fighting against racism, please commit the time to join this mini series. Our hope is that you’ll have the tools you need to better support your black neighbors
